Debbie
Oquist has been riding for over 40 years, she currently works
on a ranch driving carriage horses, and is a professional graphic
designer.
Debbie became interested in Competitive Trail Riding and Endurance
Riding about 12 years ago when she met a Don Evenson in Arroyo
Grande who took her trail riding and camping in the Los Padres
Forest. He was 85 years young and had been one of the main people
who helped bring the Competitive Trail Rides (CTR) to our area.
Debbie's
horse a half arab/half saddle bred 16 year old mare named Gallent's
Grand Gal, "GiGi" for short. It takes years to condition
a horse to compete CTR and Endurance Rides. She likes these
types of equestrian sports because a horses has to be at least
4 years old to participate in the shorter beginner rides and
then has to log in millage to be able to compete in the longer
50's, 100's and 200's.
GiGi and Debbie are a successful team finishing in the top three
placements in the last 6 CTR rides and scoring A"s &
B's in Endurance rides.
To prepare for this years' competitions she rides in the mountains
and parks in Santa Barbara, and rides on a large cattle ranch
in Los Padres Forest, helping work the cattle and also conditions
on long 5 hour rides on the ranch trails.
Her favorite
RVP products are: Herb n' Oats Shampoo, Equine Shine, Hoof Stix,
and Cool Blue Liniment. Cool Blue is just great, it keeps her
horse's legs feeling great and prevents hotspots and swelling
after a long conditing ride.
